Marimba Teacher
Critics have dubbed Katarcyna as “the one who dances with the drumsticks,” “a soloist of incredible rhythmic perfection with perfect technique.”
After receiving training in piano and percussion, Katarzyna, born in 1972, discovered the marimba as an ideal means of musical communication, perfecting her studies in Gdansk, Stuttgart, and Salzburg.
Since 2018, Katarzyna has been a full professor at the “St. Moniuszko Music Academy” in Gdansk (Poland), her hometown.
He has received numerous awards and recognitions in international competitions such as the first prize and audience award at the International Competition in Luxembourg in 1995, and the first prize at the World Marimba Competition held in Stuttgart in 1996. All of this accompanied by significant scholarships and invitations to give masterclasses in the United States and various countries in Asia and Europe.
His concert activity includes his performances as a soloist at the most famous festivals in the world (Osaka, Linz, Minneapolis, etc.), as well as his collaborations with prestigious European and American orchestras.
Katarzyna has been named “Ambassador of Percussion Art” by the Polish Society of Arts for her work in popularizing the marimba, as well as for her commitment to training young musicians.
In 2003, she founded the International Marimba Academy “Katarzyna Mycka.”
In her repertoire, there are transcriptions of Bach, Mozart, Prokofiev, etc., as well as original compositions dedicated to her by composers such as Sèjourné or Ignatowicz. It includes the release of 8 recordings.
